In his speech at MWC2022, Minister of Science and ICT of South Korea Lim Hye-sook announced that South Korea will promote the commercialization of 6G services by 2028.

Impact Analysis 
Discussions about 6G started at MWC2021, and according to the plan, 3GPP will begin researching 6G in 2023. Currently, both the "Future Technology Trend Report" and "Vision Proposal for Future Technology" are still in the early stages of composition, whereas the standardization of technology will begin in the second half of 2025, with 6G standards adopted by the first half of 2028 at the earliest. Therefore, it is widely predicted that the roll-out of 6G networks should occur between 2028 and 2030. South Korea’s target of a 6G roll-out by 2028, already thought of as quite aggressive, should encourage a sense of urgency among other countries in terms of in 6G technology and help further promote its development.
The application changes brought about by 6G will have an indirect impact on the PCB industry. However, how to use the frequency band will be the most immediate focus, as it will concern all walks of life, as was the case with the early stages of 5G. Based on current information, FCC will open the bidding and auction the 2.5GHz frequency band. As such, existing 5G network services with a continuous bandwidth of 200MHz can be expected to expand through mid-band resources below 3GHz. The next step will be to find ways to commercialize the spectrum, so that frequency ranges from 3.1GHz to 3.45GHz can be made available for auction. Research on the frequency band between 7GHz-15GHz has also been unveiled but will require further in-depth research. Thus, although there is not much information available on 6G at this time, interested parties are urged to pay attention to the relevant technical documents as a reference for long-term product development strategies.
