At the end of July, HannStar Board announced that it would acquire a 24% stake in Career Technology, a flexible board factory in Taiwan, through the subscription of private equity shares and equity exchange. The two parties will officially join together to win 5G-related PCB and rigid-flex board business opportunities.
Recently, during an interim meeting of shareholders held by Career Technology, the shareholders decided to elect Anthony Chiao, the Chairman of HannStar Board, to be the Director of Career Technology. Regarding the alliance between Career Technology and HannStar Board, Tsai Chang-Ying, the Chairman of Career Technology, said that the two sides would improve cooperation in three major aspects of technology, capital operation, and mainland layout: Career Technology will cooperate technically with HannStar Board to manufacture 5G materials and PCBs, which will be guided with operating capital, and both parties will be strengthened by the other in terms of mainland layout. Meanwhile, Tsai Chang-Ying said that he would reorganize the management team and that not much would be changed.
Career Technology is known as a leading manufacturer of FPC, while HannStar Board’s product focus is rigid boards. Products include information computers and their peripheral products; mobile communication phones, communication network equipment, modems, etc.; toys, video recorders, TVs, printers, etc.; automobile-related electronic products, such as various types of automobile control panels, satellite navigation systems; and other automotive applications associated with offices and entertainment.
Regarding the acquisition of Walsin Lihwa Group, Tsai Chang-Ying noted that he had considered whether the capital and layout were in line with the company’s long-term needs, primarily when the company has already invested in following the 5G trend. The decision to acquire HannStar Board as a new strategic partner was due to HannStar Board’s emphasis on the production of 5G and rigid-flex boards and its 5G layout being more complete than others in the industry.
