The prices for 32 and 55-inch TV panels continued to build on their upward trend in July, seeing another rise of 10% in August. As for the two key panel players, AUO and Innolux, their operations have surged significantly, and on the other hand, they are also optimistic with the fresh business opportunities brought about from the approaching era of 5G and AIoT (artificial intelligence Internet of Things) — and so, they have sped up deployments pertaining to such changes. Chairman Paul Peng of AUO believes that the visibility of panels in the third quarter of this year will be much higher in view of the reduced interference of the epidemic. Coupled with a strong demand from TV brands and information technology (IT) customers, he holds a rather optimistic view on the operation performance of AUO, which should fare much better than it did in the second quarter. As such, it is believed that the lowest end of operations will fall in the first quarter of 2020, while the upward trend (increase) should be perceived quarter by quarter in the future. Ke, Fu-ren, GM of AUO, considers that, although the emergence of the epidemic has stretched the distance between people much farther, new technologies that are driven by 5G, AI, the IoT and others, have played an important role in maintaining the link between family, friends, and work colleagues. As such, AUO will continue to help making life smarter through its offering of diversified products and solutions. Chairman of Innolux, Hong Jin-yang, noted that the company should continue with its transformation. He announced that the company will persist in adjusting its business strategy based on three major approaches, namely "consolidating new foot-holds," "cutting into new opportunities," and "expanding and seeking out intelligent manufacturing." Yang, Chu-Siang, GM of Innolux, pointed out that Innolux should aim to strengthen and promote high-end products that offer high profitability — actively seizing up the target market with high-end value-added products. Innolux is optimistic of its prospect for this season as major countries around the world are aggressively stimulating their economies. TV brand manufacturers have started to stock up for the promotion schedule in the second half of the year, which means that demands for TV panels will increase, and the need for IT product panels such as monitors and laptops will continue to flourish.
