The two major players of flexible PCB, Zhen Ding and Flexium, have concurrently increased their investments in the Taiwan market. According to equipment manufacturers, Zhen Ding will invest NT$20 to NT$30 billion in Taiwan in the next two years, whereas Flexium has, as well, planned to increase its investment in Taiwan by NT$20 billion in Kaohsiung. As a whole, the investments of these major players should reach as much as NT$50 billion, surpassing the total investment of other Taiwanese-funded PCB factories in Taiwan in previous years. As understood, the significant investments by Zhen Ding and Flexium in Taiwan should mainly focus on high-end 5G soft boards, advanced technology research and development, SLP manufacturing processes, and talent recruitment. The net profit after tax of Flexium for the first half of the year has reached NT$891 million; an annual growth of 151%, which fares better than that of the same period last year. Net profit after-tax of Zhen Ding in the first half of the year has reached about NT$2.147 billion; an annual growth of about 34%. Persistent investments and deliberate operations have benefited these companies as they gain high-end applications and institute investors’ estimates that they will continue to earn more than just capital stock this year. Flexium is planning to invest NT$20 billion at Hefa Park in Kaohsiung, and the project will be carried out in two phases; the first phase is the inspection and acceptance phase where the equipment is scheduled to take residence in the factory in the fourth quarter of this year. By next year, the park will have accommodated the compatible living provisions and have expanded the product application layout with the 5G millimeter- wave module. Since Flexium’s existing production capacity is sufficient to meet current market demands for Sub-6 mobile phones, when the new Hefa plant in Kaohsiung was gradually installed it was decided that, in the future, it would exclusively supply LCP-based products. As viewed, such deployment would jump on the bandwagon of the 5G wave as it has gradually become the mainstream trend. As noted by Flexium, it will invest nearly NT$10 billion in the first phase into the new Hefa plant in Kaohsiung based on industrial trends and customer needs, and the plant should focus on customized production for its clients, with the new production capacity to be developed progressively in line with customer needs. From 2021 to 2022, the first phase of the new plant will gradually move towards full production capacity, which is as large as a four-story building. Furthermore, the construction of the second phase is expected to start in 2022, and the building will span seven floors. Zhen Ding is also planning to invest in Luzhu in Kaohsiung, and it is scheduled that its subsidiary, Avary, will lease Kaohsiung lots at Southern Taiwan Science in Luzhu. In addition to striving for land use rights, rent negotiation, and other details, it has been rumored among equipment manufacturers that Zhen Ding will invest about NT$20 to NT$30 billion at the locality through group mobilization, likely to hit a record high of investment by the company in Taiwan.
