Taiwanese manufacturing plants have benefited from the competitiveness of mid-to-high-end products in the first half of 2020, so that they have, without doubt, achieved somewhat better revenue performance than originally expected for this period. However, overall market statistics present variable outcomes for manufacturers, with diverse and complex positive and negative impacts resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The market value of major Taiwanese PCB manufacturers totaled NT$608.7 billion towards the midpoint of 2020, a record high when compared to 2019’s closing total of NT$565.9 billion. Compared to the market value of NT$388.3 billion at the start of 2018, the cumulative growth rate has reached 56.8%. Taiwanese manufacturers have experienced increased profits over this period, with the total market value being significantly boosted by the anticipation that 5G technology will further benefit future endeavors.

Although the first half of 2020 was marked by the unprecedented external upheaval that the COVID-19 pandemic presented, Taiwan’s PCB industry is still actively developing mid-to-high-end products, as they have been doing in recent years, and has been establishing close relationships with its customers. The timely upgrade of product specifications as communication technology continues to evolve has been well-anticipated and provisions for growth have been made. Although trade will still unavoidably be affected by declines in shipments, the country’s industry has fully demonstrated the market advantages brought about by the high value of its products. Considering the overwhelming odds against favorable output value, performance has nevertheless been outstanding in the first half of the year when compared with that of most other industries.
